noob question, sorry :D No Deadline while pooling

@manfromafar ok cool, I moved it to a different usb drive and it went up from 11 mb/s to 14.5 mb/s does this sound like a normal figure? just seems like a long time for 3tb. what happens if I have 30tb? will it scale up to 10 minutes to load haha
-
@kevmachine The miners mine in parallel, so it's possible to add drives without any increase in mining time, but it depends how you're hooking the drives up.
-
@haitch im just plugging them into the back of my pc into the usb slots. the one drive i have is external. after awhile I was planning on using usb hubs to hook up more.
-
@kevmachine there's a limit to how many drives you can add before you max out the USB bandwidth, but with a hub you can add 2-3 drives per USB port and not impact mining time.
-
@kevmachine From the read speeds it sounds like the drives are hooked up through usb 2
-
@manfromafar yeah it seems slow. I will have to double check with my motherboard. is usb 3 ports a certain color? I have blue ones and red on my pc.
-
@manfromafar also I just noticed my e drive wasn't fully plotted even thou I did the math and made the correct ammount of nonces with the calculator. I still had 73gigs left on a 3tb drive. I just started plotting the remainder. I made the start nonces +1 more then where my last one finished.
-
@manfromafar i tried multiple ports and 14 mb/s is the fastest i can get.... it says its a usb 3 mobo. says on my miner like "60.2 sec (14.2 mb/s) cpu 12.2%
-
@kevmachine The Blue ports are USB 3, but is your drive USB 3 ?
-
@haitch its a seagate backup+ 3tb im not sure how to tell if its usb 3 or 2. could it be a driver issue?
-
@kevmachine Unlikely to be a driver issue - does the drive have a model number on it ? If so, what is it ?
-
@haitch two numbers i see, one is s/n NA7DS80L and P/N 1KBAP2-501
-
@haitch oh wait, maybe it is my motherboard, can you check. Its an MSI b250m gaming pro. maybe im confusing sata 3 with usb 3 wish i was more tech savy!
-
To check if you have USB 3.0, go to Device Manager and expand the USB option. If you have usb 2.0 it'll say Universal Host. but for USB 3.0 it'll actually say USB 3.0.
-
@kevmachine said in noob question, sorry :D No Deadline while pooling:
1KBAP2-501
This has a Seagate SMR (shingled Magnetic Recording) drive - these mine fine, but are a PITA to plot. It's going to take about a week to plot it. If you can, plot to another drive then copy to the external disk.
-
@Zaza it says usb 3.0 exensible host controller and usb 3.0 root hub.
-
@haitch i already plotted it, im just getting slow speed 14 mb/s when reading on the miner. takes almost a minute to read my 3tb plot, should be alot higher for 3.0. is it because its only using like 12% cpu it says?
-
@kevmachine If your CPU is 4 core/8 Threadthen 12% is right. The miner uses one thread per drive. You could try jMiner to see if it's any faster.
-
@haitch I tried its only 2 mb/s faster, my plot isn't optimized could that be the difference? I thought usb 3.0 should be reading at almost 100 mb/s?
-
@haitch or is it because i only have the 1 drive? im gonna put a small plot on my c drive to see if it works any better
