[ERROR] Error while writting to plots file

can i ask what calculator? the one in lexicon's wallet?
No.. I did mean my brain + "calc" ... where can I find the lexicons wallet you are talking about.
need to have it fit into the AVAILABLE system resources, you can have 16gb of RAM but you only have say 5 GB of RAM available, if that makes sense
Sure! But that obviously varries depending on the work of the machine. Currently its 11.1 GB
But worst case the machine should start swapping. Obviously not good for the performance, but at least in theorie it shouldn't break the process. Particular not at the very end...

This time the disk only had 1.27 GB left.
for 30496000 nonces you must have 30496000 * 64 *4096 FREE bytes, but windows can steal space for "System Volume Information", so just split your plot by 2-3 parts and decrease stagger.
GPUplotter check free space only at start and did not reserve space for plot.gpuPlotGenerator generate direct F://Burst/2330812927884415672_0_15248000_16000 gpuPlotGenerator generate direct F://Burst/2330812927884415672_15248000_15248000_16000

If you actually have 11.1GB of free RAM resources, then you would want to have a stagger value that will equate to some safe value of RAM, say around 8GB. There are 32,768 nonces is 8GB of RAM. So your value of 32000 seems sane. What is the value of free bytes on the hard drive compared to your 30496000 nonces. Your plot file would be 7994343424000 bytes, so the drive would need more free space than this. Let's say it does, then that part is good too. So finally, your stagger size of 32000 evenly divides into the plot file size of 7994343424000 bytes. Again, you are good.
You are exactly where I was when trying to plot 6TB and 8TB drives with a single plot file using the gpuplotter in direct mode. Setups were good...and I got the same random failures.
The solution, for me at least, was to use multiple smaller plot files to file the drives. I use around 2TB each, adjusted as needed to fit the available free space. When mining, this is not a bit slower either. You might try this and see if you have better luck. Let us know...

1 GB worked just fine... I now restarted 8 TB using the Lex-Wallet calculator.
Fingers crossed that this time it works,

Thats good to know! I did read/hear somewhere that you should have your plotfiles as big as possible.
Should my current try fail again, I will follow your advise.

@TheTiny , it's honestly not that important. My rig scans in less than 15 seconds with 56Tb on 10 HDD, each with 3 to 6 files.
-
@TheTiny I suspect that you're trying to plot beyond the end of the drive. Try reducing the number of nonces by your stagger rounded up to a power of 2 - in your case 32,768 or 65,536 to be extra cautious.

Hi all,
First of all I would like to say thank you for your help, I have been reading the forums and my questions have been answered in different posts.
I decided to post my first message on the end of this one as I was getting the error "[ERROR] Error while writting to plots file."I managed to plot a 1TB drive using the following gpuPlotGenerator generate direct i:\154118381297017224_0_3809280_40960
I tried a few times as I thought it had stopped working, however realised that i was just being impatient.
It plotted ok.Next I tried to plot a 4TB drive, and I got the error, I thought I had a faulty disk.
I ran chkdsk /r which took ages, and found no errors.
I tried again using the same parameters gpuPlotGenerator generate direct i:\154118381297017224_3809280_15237120_40960.
It plotted so far then stopped with the error, the file it created was 2347076096kb
I decided to do a full format, which took ages.
I tried again using gpuPlotGenerator generate direct i:\154118381297017224_3809280_15224832_36864
It plotted so far then stopped with the error, the file it created was 2557412352kb
Then I read this thread, so I decided to use i:\154118381297017224_3809280_15237120_32768
However at the same time I also decided to check my swap settings, as not much swapping was happening.
I then remembered that because I have 16GB of ram I thought windows shouldn't need to do much swapping, so I had set it to 200 - 2000(saving space on ssd). I changed it to system managed.
This time it got much further with only (only) 600GB to go, however I caught the power button with my leg trying to remove a wireless dongle, it stopped.
As I believe I had fixed the issue, I decided to try again using the same parameters gpuPlotGenerator generate direct i:\154118381297017224_3809280_15237120_40960. The drive has done the 'initial plot' ie filled the drive, now its working some other magic.
The drive is filled, with 6.61GB free space. It started with 26000 nonces per minute, pausing at 0.26%.
Now the drive has filled it started processing at 100 nonces per minute, with 7 weeks eta, climbing to 600 nonces, and 2 weeks eta, while it copies to the hdd.I'm wondering if it starts processing from the end of the drive after it has filled, as this drive was giving speeds of 180 MB/s, but was at 80MB/s toward the end of the 'initial fill', now it's doing 80MB/s with whatever it is doing now.
Current ETA is 1w 4d 14h, but the nonces per minute are going up every time it processes.
I haven't started mining yet, but did managed to get 1 Burst form a faucet. Do I need any more if I am to mine in a pool?
-
@Althalus The nonces per minute will continue to climb and the ETA will continue to drop.
1 Burst is enough to set your reward assignment for a pool. If you need a couple of extra, post here and someone will send them to you.
