Look on the list of pools that accommodate your mining capacity, I don't think there is any 'best newbie pools' as they're all about the same.
Look here: http://util.burst-team.us:8888/pool

@Snoops As I relatively new member myself I find that list useless... yes it's a list of all the pools, but there's no information about what sizes of plots should join. Some pools, like lexitoshi, really don't seem geard for small miners. Some pools like CCMiner are specifically for over 50TB and say so, but that's basically it... none of the other pools explicitly say in their name which is which.
In contrast, BTFGspace was specifically for small miners while it was still opperational (any news on why it's down this week?) but you wouldn't know from the pool list.
To answer the original question, I've been trying http://burstneon.ddns.net/ and getting significantly less than btfg, but not as horribly as other pools.

This list is outdated but you can get a sense of the recommended plot sizes, rewards, and auto payout settings for each pool.

@Hellbeast @Acanterelle
Small miners should maybe choose a pool, where the targetDeadline is as high as possible ... to have a better chance to earn shares (targetDeadline is the lowest allowed to commit) ... you can check the targetDeadlines on burstcoin.cc/network ... same like http://util.burst-team.us:8888/network just shorter domain.

@luxe Yes that list has the required information ^_^.
