Not sure if I'm doing this right :(

  • @luxe ... is it normal that the process takes SO LONG? it says estimated remaining time: 277:28:01 and that hasn't moved in the last couple of hours :S

  • I mean... why you don't have at least a MINIMUM of suspicion that it could be the plotter itself what's wrong and that i should re download it and re install it? just wondering... After all that's what keeps crashing over and over...

@TellezMiotta The Error code 1117 you got has nothing to do with the plotter, it indicates a hardware issue ... i searched for a way to solve this issue, and what i found was that chkdsk could help (http://kb.macrium.com/KnowledgebaseArticle50130.aspx), i did not know that it would take that long ... i suggest just let it run ... another way could be to re-format the drive and start over with plotting ... i can not provide the perfect solution ... just assist and tell you, what i would do in such a case ... after all it is your decision how you want to contain ... as there is only a plotfile on that drive, there is no big risk in data get lost, so you could also just cancel that repair tool.

  • I understand... Well... As i told you... since i don't have a desktop... I have to plot the drives using the mining rigs... and that action stops the ETH mining... It is not profitable for me... I was willing to do so however just as an experiment... but re plotting would be a total waste of time o.O.... I think I will just run this chkdsk....

However... just in case i find a desktop... would re-formating the hdd make this error disappear?

One more thing... It stopped at 58% (aproximately) that means that, if i mine with the plot how it is... it would be like mining with 2.5 TB? right?

@TellezMiotta https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CHKDSK ... it can only repair problems in filesystem ... if there is a physical problem with your drive, it can not fix that.

@TellezMiotta, If you do decide to abandon the half plotted file, I would:

    1. download off the internet and install: AOMEI partition assistant (free)

    2. download off the internet and install: HD Tune (free for 15 days)

    3. Run AOMEI and delete all partitions on the drive.

    4. Run HD Tune and do a write benchmark test, a read benchmark test and an error check (check the quick option or it will take forever).

If everything checks out then reformat the drive using either the Windows formatter or the AOMEI program. I format first with AOMEI then reformat with the Windows formatter and select 64k as the cluster size.

Then create the Burst and plots subdirectory on the newly formatter drive.

Then rerun xplotter as before with one big exception. Do not use -n 0 to fill the drive.

Plot the drive 1TB at a time. That way if there is an issue with any file you only have to deal with 1TB of replot not 4 or 5 or 8TB.

Here is a typical bat file to fill an 8TB drive.

    c:\burst\XPlotter.v1.0\XPlotter_avx.exe -id 23470867970884553098 -sn 2700000000 -n 3815000 -t 4 -path e:\burst\plots -mem 2G
    c:\burst\XPlotter.v1.0\XPlotter_avx.exe -id 23470867970884553098 -sn 2703815000 -n 3815000 -t 4 -path e:\burst\plots -mem 2G
    c:\burst\XPlotter.v1.0\XPlotter_avx.exe -id 23470867970884553098 -sn 2707630000 -n 3815000 -t 4 -path e:\burst\plots -mem 2G
    c:\burst\XPlotter.v1.0\XPlotter_avx.exe -id 23470867970884553098 -sn 2711445000 -n 3815000 -t 4 -path e:\burst\plots -mem 2G
    c:\burst\XPlotter.v1.0\XPlotter_avx.exe -id 23470867970884553098 -sn 2715260000 -n 3815000 -t 4 -path e:\burst\plots -mem 2G
    c:\burst\XPlotter.v1.0\XPlotter_avx.exe -id 23470867970884553098 -sn 2719075000 -n 3815000 -t 4 -path e:\burst\plots -mem 2G
    c:\burst\XPlotter.v1.0\XPlotter_avx.exe -id 23470867970884553098 -sn 2722890000 -n 3815000 -t 4 -path e:\burst\plots -mem 2G

Once you are done you will rerun the bat file, if everything worked out you will get an error saying the plot is already done for each file which is what you want to see. I usually write a second bat file with a pause between each
file to I can read the cmd window output to assure everything is ok.

    pause
    c:\burst\XPlotter.v1.0\XPlotter_avx.exe -id 23470867970884553098 -sn 2700000000 -n 3815000 -t 4 -path e:\burst\plots -mem 2G

Look, you are frustrated, however, many here are trying to help you, for free. I and probably everyone else here went through growing pains as you are now. I was helped tremendously by many on this board when I first started mining Burst. I, and others are helping you now. I think when you pay your dues you will ultimately be in a position to help other newcomers.

  • Should I let the chkdsk end before doing what @rds is recommending me? Or should I do so right away?

What is discouraging me is that when plotting... my rig is useless to do pretty much anything else and my ETH hashrate drops to the floor, so i have to stop mining ETH or it would be burning GPUs for nothing.... If i have to replot i would call it a day because I'm wasting money... is just a financial decision... God knows I'd love to mine burstcoin as well... but It seems like it is worthless unless I find a way to plot without stopping ETH mining... (I will need to buy me another computer with a better CPU)

So, I'm curious, how much ETH mining revenue are you losing per day? $1, $10, $100? You can buy a small laptop for $179 to do your plotting.

  • Why do I have -sn 400000001 and you have -sn 2700000000 on the first line of bat file?

  • @rds For leaving a RIG without mining... I lost like 70$-100$ aproximately...

  • @rds This is an internal HDD... i can't plot via laptop.... or can I?

  • @TellezMiotta , if you're losing $100/day then you need to buy the $179 laptop.

You can start your nonces with any number you want. I number my HDDs, so this file was for plotting drive #27.

  • @rds No no.... i'm loosing 10-15$... if i were losing $100 i would have never consider not mining eth LOL

  • @TellezMiotta said in Not sure if I'm doing this right :(:

If you're losing $100/day you can buy a new HDD for the laptop USB 3.0,

Look, you've got limited resources to do both (ETH and Burst) . You need to decide what you want to do.

  • I'm going to try to do what you have recommended me and see if i can plot the hard drive 1 tb at a time using only one thread (that is, one core of my CPU right?) .... if I can do that then maybe i could mine ETH and plot at the same time right?

If I can't... then I will call it a day on burst until I can get my hands on some hardware other than my ETH mining rigs...

  • @TellezMiotta , sounds like a plan. Yes reducing to 1 thread will allow the other cores to be available for ETH. It will take 4 times as long to plot but who cares. As each 1TB file completes it will be able to start mining even before the full drive completes. Good luck.

  • 0_1493678267181_AOEMI.png

Ok.... here is my AOEMI partition assistant.... i deleted the partitions (i think?) does it look good?

  • 0_1493678670091_READ.png

This is the read benchmark (I selected short test as you told me)

  • I though i eliminated all the partions on my HDD... yet, i got this message...

    0_1493678801098_Message partitions.png

  • @TellezMiotta Hmm i would advise you to format your drive via Windows instead of with that program... It should write everything over...

Regarding plotting and mining ETH at the same time you should be able if you left just one CPU core free, because it is needed to control the GPUs, otherwise you will not be able to make it... ;D
