CPU/GPU mining, big difference?
-
@haitch I plan on switching to dedicated miners soon but for now wanted to see if I could get better results with the AIO and GPU.
-
@newsense2004 Platform/DeviceID can vary by system. Get the GPUPlotGenerator, run it with "gpuplotgenerator setup", then get it to list the devices.
-
@haitch Thanks, will do. Needed it anyways to plot a new drive.
-
@newsense2004 I've got a couple of miners that were plotted with GPU, but the restartability and reliability of xplotter makes it my preferred plotter if your system supports it.
-
Anyone know if the GPUPlotGenerator optimizes also?
-
@newsense2004 In direct mode it creates optimized, in buffered mode it doesn't. But see above.
-
@haitch Thanks, don't see why my system wouldn't support it. It's a decent system.
-
@newsense2004 What GPU do you plan to use for plotting?
If you have an nvidia card, you may also need to install the openCL libraries:
http://developer.amd.com/tools-and-sdks/opencl-zone/amd-accelerated-parallel-processing-app-sdk/jminer may (probably) needs the same libraries.
-
@sevencardz he's going to plot with his i7 with xplotter for now and mine with his GPU :P
-
I currently have 15 seperate plots on 2 seperate drives totaling 9,477GB. I'm using the CPU miner but have been thinking about switching to GPU.
i7-6700k
Geforce 1080 Ti

@D2iH8c Is there a benefit in having multiple plots on a single drive over having a single plot?
-
@newsense2004 Honestly, I'm still a n00b so I dunno...I had originally intended to use AWS with ACD but it was taking an insane amount of time to upload anything because my upload BW is total crap. So it turned into just filling up some drives and seeing what kind of $ I could make...it's really not as much as I would have hoped...I have another business venture that I'm invested in and making much more daily. So I'm going to just get these drives completely full and let it run for a week with no interference from me and see what kind of $ I can bring in.
-
What's your other business venture? I'm curious now ;)
-
@newsense2004 Webdesign, Hosting & things along those lines
-
@newsense2004 there is, when plotting with a gpu plotter you can not continue the plot if there is crashes on computer etc so people plot small plots to prevent this but they can use xplotter and plot with that to resume and optimize their plots.
-
@HiDevin You sure xplotter can resume on power failure? I know you can pause and resume it but I don't think a resume after power outage is possible, I could be wrong.
-
@newsense2004 actually I don't think so because there is a high chance that it wouldn't because you know writing to drive, power goes out, data lost etc
-

I have seen Xplotter resume plotting after a hibernation.

Yeah you are right you can use -n last nounce to resume. Good to know.
-
@newsense2004 Yes, xplotter can resume on power failure - have personal experience of it .....
