HowTo Calculate and Convert storage bytes
-
Small reminder!! Bit : A Bit is a value of either a 0 or 1.
Byte : 1 Byte = 8 Bits
Kilobyte (KB) : 1 KB = 8,192 Bits ,
===========1 kB = 1,024 Bytes
Megabyte (MB) 1MB =1,024 KB
Gigabyte (GB) 1GB = 1,024 MB
Terabyte (TB) 1TB = 1,024 GB
Petabyte (PB) 1PB = 1,024 TB
Exabyte (EB) 1EB = 1,024 PB
Zettabyte (ZB) 1ZB = 1,024 EB1GB = 4,096 nonce
1TB = 4,096*1,024GB = 4,194,304

I think drive manufactures really rip you off, because they count by 1,000 Bytes, in stead of counting by 1,024 Bytes. That 24 Bytes really adds up after a while, with a 2TB HDD you can only use 1.8TB. So it's not a true 2TB. And with a 8TB HDD you almost lose 1TB, because of the crooked way they counting there bites.

@Tate-A yes exactly, they round it up. An 8TB is not a true 8TB

You get over 4E12 bytes on a 4TB hard drive. No deception here. Tera is a prefix for 10^12. you get 4x10^12 bytes on a 4 TB drive.

Due to that table 1kB is 1000 byte (decimal) and 1KiB is 1024 byte (binary)
e.g. in jminer you can switch between both formats ...

Maybe i should have better used JEDEC ... i'm confused by that different standards :-)
