Need advice on mining. Hdd purchase
-
Hey all,
I just started mining with an old HD with my laptop.
I am considering adding a 4tb hdd.
Laptop is Intel core i5 4200u cpu @ 1.6ghz
4 gb ram 64 bit os.
Saw a Samsung 4tb had on amazon for about 130 usd.
What do you all recommend for my setup?
I am ready to buy.
Thanks

@PETENICE you should check this https://forums.burst-team.us/topic/2928/hard-drives-26-tb-shipping-pre-plotted-available @superskid offers it cheaper than amazon :-)
Did not see a Samsung hdd for quite a while ... link?

@luxe thanks
I went ahead and purchased an 8tb wd.
I understand it is gonna take some time to plot, but I will give it a go.

Thanks$130 seems expensive for 4tb, you can get a 8tb on amazon for $210 and at bestbuy they sell 4tb for about $110. I siggest going to bestbuy first cause then u get reward points!

@mathew thanks for reply.
I went ahead and bought an 8tb drive.

@PETENICE I would suggest you to use Desktop (instead of Laptop) for mining as laptops are not designed to use for continous operation and can burnout.
-
@dkali1 you are correct, my laptop died, and I bought a desktop.
-
@PETENICE Very sad to hear that. Try to use more fans and cooling system with your desktop if possible. Also monitor the system temperature through a good software, like Speccy:
https://speccy.en.softonic.com/Comparatively plotting is more extreme than mining and it increase the CPU temperature up-to 85 C.

Here is the thread about how to prevent system from damaging:
