Hard drive dock
-
Does anyone have a good recommendation for a hard drive dock. I'm looking for something with hopefully 4 ports that can preferably connect via usb.
-
Where are you located?

Minnesota.

Perfect, I'll probably be ordering a couple of those.

@DougLife I use these all the time and are solid. I have added 4 to 5 of these on a hub on one USB port without problems.

Thanks for the recommendation. I've been thinking about using these, since they're half the price of the MediaSonic ProBoxes I've been using. How's the noise level? Do you need to cool the drives with an external fan?

Not really, noise is ok as well. If you feel they get hot then just put a 12" house for to blow air around them

@Focus Nice, thanks. I'm gonna give one a try for my next set of disks.

Not sure if all the buzz came from here, but I can't seem to find anyone with this in stock at a decent price. Even ordered one off ebay only to find out a day later that the person was only drop shipping from other places and couldn't get it so had to refund my purchase....

Found the 3bay on amazon:
But newegg will have them back in stock in a couple days

I'll give it a few days, will probably just swap the drives in and out of the main box while they are being plotted until I can get something ordered.
With those, I'm ready a lot of complaints about the drives "going to sleep" when running through the USB connection. Have you had any of these issues or are you running it via esata?

@Focus Is the capacity listed on these legit? Can I put 4 8TBs in them?
-
I think @focus has left the forums, but does anyone else use this dock. Curious if it is stable enough to use with the usb 3.0 running 4x 3TB drives, or if they will go to sleep. I have the eSata connection if needed.
-
@DougLife I have Orico's with 4x 4TBs without issues. I tried other drives like 6TBs & 8TBs but miner reported I/O errors.
Edit: I'm using USB 3.0.
-
I was mistaken, for some reason I was thinking there was an option for either usb3.0 or eSata coming off the dock. I looked at it and that isn't the case. I will probably be setting this up Sunday and will post if I have further questions :)

@Burstde I run 2 internal 8tb drives in my thermaltake duet no problem. Infact can easily blow the dust off with my leaf blower too.
