Yea Crow, go eat a Snicker cause you sound moody. haha
I'm not moody, I'm annoyed that this is even a thing, and we're re-voting on a logo we already shot down years ago... and someone is trying to claim it is theirs when it isn't.
@gadrah - were you the one that made the logo years back? The one we originally voted against?
-
@crowetic Exactly, as I said in the OP I took an already existing logo and redid it on @daWallet 's demand so it is vectorized. I also modified the circle. I then did the "Burst" logo completely from scratch.
@daWallet said
A little history about the logo we are using now: There was someone who made many proposals and there was a short discussion on bitcointalk and not even a serious poll about the current logo we use now. Many people disliked it and making jokes about balls.
Can we have some more details about the initial poll ?
-
As someone who has a website (Burstblast.site) I'm up for any new logos that the community wants to create that I can use instead of creating new ones.
However, the design of whatever I am creating is more important than the approved logo and I should be allowed to make changes as needed.
Also trends change. An old logo could be what the community likes today and didn't like two years ago.
btw, I voted against the posted logo because of some concerns I had listed in my first post.

The initial poll, was a popular vote, no official poll, but it was clear that the logo we have was the winning choice.

Well, IMO the logo is so freaking ugly, as ugly as it was the first time I saw it. The one we currently use is MUCH nicer, and very clean.
The edit that @socalguy did looks VERY nice. That should be the change, not change to some funky B with a lightning bolt tail. Because a few people say so in a poll not many people saw.
-
@crowetic By the way I do not appreciate how you insinuate I stole someone's work and appropriated it for myself. I urge you to read the whole thread more carefully. Also, what @socalguy said.
The poll is far from being closed. But right now there is a big majority who prefers this design over the current one.
I'm going to eat so I'll be back in 30min.
-
Imho, I think both look shit. But hey.. I suck at graphic design, so I can't do any better.
I do think these ones look better than the one we currently use, and I don't give a f**** if someone else decided or thinks this is ugly as f****. If you want burst to be able to always change according to the wishes of the community, it should be open to change. What better way than ask the community?
-
Design ideas change every year, and it's normal to change the logo from time to time (I don't mean we need to change it now).
At my company, we change how we present our business and change the website design (and how we present information) about every year or two, if not, it looks old.
I also like the one from @socalguy , it looks cleaner.
Conclusion: The current logo is Ugly.
-
@crowetic I can't find the initial poll or popular vote. What I see is the design we have now got approved in 17th August 2014: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=731923.msg8404218#msg8404218
That was one week after Release of Burst.
I think the community is at least 100 times bigger today and a lot of time has passed.
So please don't say "Because a few people say so in a poll not many people saw".

Do not get angry ;)
If it is the community that asks for it, it would not be better to open a period of presentation of proposals and to do the survey after?

Sorry, im with @crowetic on this one. The proposed designs look amateurish at best. Also, to say that the project is still young so it can afford a change, this is the worst thing i have ever heard. Its hard enough for established projects/companies to change their brand without losing support. A start up or realitively young project woud be seen as a joke if the brand is constantly changed. People would think that if they cant get the branding right, how can they grow the project as a whole. If it aint broke, dont fix it.
Exactly, we can't change the logo, we've finally started establishing the current one, to change it now would only confuse people, "Do I have the right place??" kind of thing...
IMO a change now (aside from trimming it up and making it look nicer and more professional like @socalguy did) is a MASSIVELY bad idea.
I get the letting the community help out thing, but I don't think that changing the logo because more people vote on it, is a good idea whatsoever, and I will be VERY unhappy if this is what is decided, as I've been one of the driving forces in the marketing of BURST, and this would make it MUCH harder to get people to realize it as a 'brand' and know that they're looking at the right thing...
Confusing people at this stage of the game could have disastrous effects, and I'm never going to be for this idea.
If you want to use your own logo, fine, make your own BURST related project and make your own logo for it, but changing the MAIN logo of the coin, at this stage, is the absolute worst idea ever. I will stick to this until the end.
If you really want to confuse people, why not just make a whole array of logos and we can just pick and choose whichever logo we want to use for X Y Z development that goes down...

If it is the community that asks for it, it would not be better to open a period of presentation of proposals and to do the survey after? The community, IMO cannot ask for THIS TYPE of a change at THIS point... it's not even fully established, changing the logo now would be an absolute disaster...
We don't even have a solid way to get this information into the coin news sites yet, so until we have that, and EVERYONE will know right when it happens, and everyone can see it immediately, I think it will do nothing but cause harm to what we've been trying to accomplish in branding and marketing the coin.
The community at the beginning had a choice to choose a logo, we chose it, now we stick with it IMO, when we have a solid way to get into news sites, and/or the sites are tracking what we're doing and picking up stories automatically, and we can merely mention something to them and have it put out all over the world, THEN we may consider such a change, but as I said, now, it would be the absolute worst thing we could do from a marketing perspective.
New members to the community have to accept the fact that they didn't get a chance to vote for the original logo, and let it be, IMO.
-
@crowetic Do not be wrong with me I have not asked for the logo change anywhere I do not care I just said that doing so can be done differently.
The new members will have to accept many things but the old users could have a little more respect in how they communicate with others

The reason this may come off as 'without respect' is because this EXACT SAME logo has already been voted AGAINST. If it were another logo, something different, then I may have had a different reaction to it, as a logo, but the fact remains that changing the logo at this point would be a disasger.
-
@crowetic That does not give you the right to disrespect anyone, I have been able to feel offended by your previous response and yet I have treated you with all due respect.
For me this does not give more of if if they want to change change it and if not then no, I retire to the Spanish forum that it costs me less to express myself

I think you must be taking what I'm saying wrong, I'm not disrespecting ANYONE, I'm wondering why an old logo was brought up again, when it had already been voted against.

So please don't say "Because a few people say so in a poll not many people saw".I think this counterargues the 'voted against'?
Anyway, I think this is a healthy discussion (as long as we keep it this way)
and does clarify the community's standing on the logo.Lets just keep communicating and things will work out
(come on guys, lets keep burstingloving eachother)
-
@crowetic On the contrary, I think the damage would be minimal on short term and the benefits much bigger on long term. As you said, we are still not even fully established. Changing now would not wreak havoc on the public opinion of the coin as you are implying it. Bigger adoption of Burst has yet to come and changing now would prevent this exact same fight in a much larger scale.
I know that everyone has different tastes in graphism, I did not expect everyone to like this logo. Saying that this would be an absolute disaster is only an opinion and not a fact. Just remember everyone is entitled to his own opinion, and no need to exagerate anything.
And I believe that what is confusing and damaging right now is the current, inconsistent, unprofessional use of the logo. This should be adressed whether we change it or not.
@cwade77 This is a good point, I did not know of the Dash design. On the other hand, it would be impossible to have any logo that is not similar in some ways to an existing one.
-
@cwade77 I talked about similarities, not about plain copying. Every existing logo has similarities in some ways to another, and it is not a matter of a lack of imagination. It is a matter of limitations in colors and shapes that exist.
Also, no need to use that condescending tone in your messages. We are here to discuss as adults, not to fight :)
