Plotting and Mining on Amazon Cloud Drive

  • Thanks for the update @RichBC

  • @RichBC
Not hard to find out if your using netdrive or not by watching the port numbers.
I haven't a clue what he means by sharing it though as it is the evaluation version that I am using?
Could be right with the decimal point but still you would have thought they would try to get their facts straight before replying with any old BS.
By sharing they might mean accessing the same cloud drive account from different IPs which of course I have been doing.
BTW what is up with the burst network ATM? Wallet syncs seam to be taking an age and this forum is going on and off line frequently.
BTW gotta love the name of the CS rep at Amazon you were in dialogue with. Was his last name 'hell' :-)

  • forum and wallet where being DDOS's for the 24-48 hours been balls to get on looks like they have it under control now though

  • @machasm It's all a bit of a mystery and I am far from certain the the Agent you get to talk to has much real information about why your account has been locked?

I have made my test as simple as it could be. Just downloading and from a single IP. However it's still being locked. Will continue backing off on the TB, not because it's practical in the long run, but just to see if there is a point where the account does not get locked?

I am toying with the idea of a combination of Uploading and downloading to simulate more normal usage next.

There have been a lot of problems with everything haitch hosts because of attacks on his systems.

    :-) hell

  • @gersey
    Thanks

  • Ok here's an interesting bit of data that justifies why perusing this is worthwhile. If we make the following simple Assumptions.

    $1 = 1000 Burst
    1TB will earn 330 Burst a Week
Amazon Drive costs $1 a Week

Then you only need 3TB to be breaking even. :-)

  • @RichBC
Without raining on your parade Rich, we do have to take into account that not every block has enough time to go through the whole plot read so fast blocks get passed over.
Also you haven't factored in for the time the cloud drive is locked out so no reading done at that point until it is unlocked again.
That said, I still think it is worthwhile especially if you have around 6TB on the cloud. This seams to be the sweet spot, well for me at least.

  • @machasm Yes I agree it was a rose tinted glasses view, but the calculator actually shows 430 Burst / TB / Week. Have been meaning to do some order of magnitude maths for a while and it actually came out better than I expected :-)

Have not run out of ideas yet on the various problems, but am going to concentrate in the short term on what the limits are / how to mine the most without getting locked.

  • So got locked again Yesterday, same time and probably a coincidence but jst after the network speed slowed right down. Here's the latest Dialog.

Initial Question: Hi My Amazon Drive has just been locked and I cannot access my files. This also happened Yesterday. Can you please help

08:07 PM GMT Sai(Amazon): Hello, my name is Sai. I'll be happy to help you today.
08:08 PM GMT Sai: I am sorry to hear your Amazon drive is locked.
Please do not worry, I will do my best to assist you.

08:08 PM GMT Rich: Thank You
08:10 PM GMT Sai: I have unlocked the Amazon drive.
08:10 PM GMT Rich: Yes I can now access the files. Do you know why it was locked?
08:11 PM GMT Sai: Amazon Drive is only for individual use and use that complies with our Terms of Use that you agreed to when you opted into Amazon Drive . Sharing your account or files from your account is not permissible.
For example sharing with your friends or others outside your household.
In this case the Amazon drive will be locked.
08:12 PM GMT Rich: I can assure you that the drive has only been used by me and only from a single PC, so am uncertain what I am doing wrong?
08:13 PM GMT Sai: In that case, may I know are you uploading and downloading large data files in different computers.
This can be one of the causes to.
08:14 PM GMT Rich: Today I have done no uploading of files, just a number of downloads from the Database I have stored on the drive. Only by me and only to a single computer.
08:16 PM GMT Sai: In that case, I request you to once check with the terms and conditions, you might know where the problem is happening.

    Please check and confirm me.
08:17 PM GMT Rich: OK I will got and read the T&C again see if I can work out where I am going wrong. Thanks for unlocking the Drive.
08:18 PM GMT Sai: You're most welcome. Please let me know if there is anything else that I may assist you with today?
08:18 PM GMT Rich: That is all thanks for your help.
08:19 PM GMT Sai: You're welcome. Thanks for visiting Amazon.co.uk. Have a great evening.

Again different response to the what question. makes me think they have no specific data and are just dealing with generalities.

So Today I am down to 4TB but have this feeling that any mining with regular access will get you locked.

I did have a thought which might be relevant which is that I mine at a different location that I have a remote Desktop connection to, but also have the Amazon interface to the Drive running on my main PC, so it could look like I am accessing from 2 IP? So have logged out of the Amazon access Today.

    Rich

  • @RichBC yeah amazon repeatedly lock your account if you use it for burst. they also throttle your connection if you over use it which is annoying.

i ended up canceling the trial i had with them cause it just wasn't working out.

after they locked my account 5 times i just gave up. i heard they even banned some users but this might just be a rumor
