Picking a pool with slow USB speed
-
Hi the pool I was on isn't working anymore so I've joined pool.burst-team.us being it's the most popular my question is I've noticed the blocks get solved very quickly even before all the hard drives get scanned and I'm not getting as many confirmed DLs and even some unconfirmed ones will I get the same amount of burst? I have 19TB.
-
the blocks are the same blocks on every pool you should make the same amount of burst , however moving to a pool with less people might cut down on the amount of not confirmed DL's . that is mostly caused from high traffic with lots and lots of people submiting deadlines all at the same time . some will get pushed throu and be accepted but may not get the confirmation signal sent back to your miner. if your HDD's are taking longer than avrage 4 min to scan id recommend optimizing your plots if you have not alredy done this it can vastly improve speed. and if on USB 2 try and get them swaped over to USB 3 or try and limit the y splits in USB to each drive make it a dedicated USB per drive. not much else you can do if on USB 2

@weaveR Which pool is down ?
-
@haitch Oh its 216.165.179.42 its working now but someone pm'd me to join their pool so I'll try that I'm getting the message passphrase doesn't match reward recipient though even though I've definitely put the right passphase in?
-
@weaveR It takes 4 blocks after you do the reward assignment ~ 16 minutes.
-
@Gibsalot It's taking about 100 secs to scan all HDs and I can't use USB 3.0 because for some reason the port on the laptop im mining with only has one really slow usb 3.0 port. I tried using a usb 3.0 hub but it made it even slower
-
@haitch Oh its working now thanks do both the passphrase and 4 block messages mean the same thing?
-
@weaveR Take a look in device manager and make sure the USB 3 ports recognized - if the laptop doesn't have the correct driver it'll fall back to 2 or 1 or not work at all
-
-
@weaveR If the drives are USB 3.0 then you shouldn't be having any speed issues then, If you put one drive on the USB 3 and mine it, how long and what size ?
re reward change, no, you need your passphrase to make the reward change, after 4 blocks the change takes affect.
-
@haitch 8TB and 55 sec
-
But its only 33mbps?
-
@weaveR That's slow - what's the stagger on the plots? (the last number in the filename)
-
@haitch 20000
-
@weaveR I use powers of two for the number of nonces, unless the plot is fully optimized, so for that one 16384 or 32768. Do you have free space you can use the optimizer to optimize the plot? The smallish stagger will hurt read performance.
-
@haitch I have a empty spare 2 TB but all the other hard drives are full do you need the size of the plot free?
-
@weaveR yeah, you do unfortunately. The new Blago xplotter can do cpu based fully optimized plots on the fly, maybe replot one and compare performance ?
-
@haitch Oh man it took forever to plot these drive I didn't know the stagger size had to be a calculation I think I just watched IMineBlock's youtube video on creating plots and he just said make it based on the RAM you have on your video card? I thought it just made you create plots faster or slower?
-
@weaveR The stagger isn't critical - it's the geek in me that uses powers of 2, but if you can optimize the plot or replot with optimized stagger, it'll be faster.
-
@haitch I wish the GPU plotter did that automatically for you is the new CPU plotter much slower?
