Seagate for plotting
-
is it recomemded to used seagate hard drive for plotting?
-
@jumbolin There isn't really a recommended brand bud. But I think it is better to get 7200 RPM disks. :)
-
thank guys here .
-
@jervis @jumbolin 7200rpm drives aren't necessary they may help a bit but greatly increase the cost per TB 5200rpm drives are more than enough to plot and mine
-
@jumbolin you can use any brands. I'm using Toshiba because it's cheaper for the same capacity.
But the choice is yours.

@jumbolin
When it comes to plotting there's a difference between SMR and PMR Hard Drives. Both work fine for mining but SMR's require a bit of an different approach for plotting.
In short, you cantgpuPlottGenerator.exe direct ................We had some discussion about this in here.
So far I havn't found a Hard Drive which is unmineable!-)
But it can require a bit of searching to find out what teknik they use in the drive you're looking at prior to actually plotting them!And I think all of the cheaper Seagate USB3 Drives are SMR's
-
@nixxda Do you mean SMRs cannot be plotted with GPUplotter? And if you say that cheaper USB 3 Seagates are SMRs, then I have just GPUplotted SMRs.

Nope!-) I'm saying that if you try to plott in "direct Mode" your write speed will most probably go down to single digit numbers after a while!
"buffer Mode" should work just fine.
However, if you wana end up with "optimized Plots" in the end, best way to do SMR's plotting to a normal disk first and then move them to the SMR using the "Optimizer.exe"But I have to admit, I'm mostly speaking of the "Seagate Expansion Desktop 3,5"" which offer the most TB/$ around here!-)
-
@nixxda I have directly gpuplotted them all. I dont do buffer. I need them optimized. an 8 TB i have gpuplotted for 15 hours. I guess that's fast.
-
@jervis Ok. Lucky you!-)
Do you know if they are SMR's?
