Hi Folks,
because burst.ninja pool is offline since few hours, and honestly I'm a bit tired of these pools glitch every time, I'm moved to solo mining! I'll test the solo solutions for 48 hours and I'll decide whether to keep it or to move back to the pool!
P.S.: We found a block already and the full reward is quite FAT!! (block 306233)
-
@ccminer wow cool how much did the block get in Bursts? :)

Good job @ccminer , love this strategy!
-
@qibucks the block reward is 2 378 BURST per block plus the fees.
So in our case 2 378 + 19 = 2 397 BURST (for the block we founded)
This reward decrease 5% each month
-
Yeah keep it pegged on solo
-
@ccminer wow 55 monthly decrease so BURST becomes more valuable and harder to mine yes?
-
@bitko ehehe yeah like more than the double than a pool block reward (with a short deadline)
-
@Burstde I would like so, but we must being able to find several blocks per day, so that's why I want to test for 48 hours and than decide
-
@qibucks that's the idea behing it!
-
@ccminer It will be swings and roundabouts, you gain on the Blocks you mine but loose on everything else. Whenever I back calculate what I would have earned if Solo I have always come out slightly better being on a Pool, despite the Pool fee.
Rich
-
@RichBC yeah that's why I want to be sure after the test!
Plus it's not just the pool fee, it's also all the glitches, for example today we didn't mined for lie 4 to 6 hours, with solo I can control directly the mining operations and reduce the impact of the downtime
-
@ccminer y
Yes not having Pool problems would be a plus but Solo I guess there is always a risk of your Wallet going off on a Fork which will reduce earnings?Rich
-
@RichBC Yes you are right, but I will be in charge to fix the issue, I don't have to wait hours and hours to somebody else to do it for me.
But as I said we will see the results and we will decide
-
@ccminer 48 hours may be a little short for comparison - perhaps 72 hours may be a good starting point to compare solo vs pool mining?
-
@vier23 I think you would need at least a Month, there is tremendous variability in the number of blocks you hit. With 80TB I average 2 blocks a Day, however it can be as high as 5 and I can go 3 Days without a Block...
I think the best way to compare is to Pool Mine for a good number of Weeks. Then count how many Blocks you mined and multiply by the Block Reward plus Fees, and see how they compare.
Rich
-
@RichBC I understand. and I agree. You definitely need to mine for a longer period before being able to determine what's better. But since @ccminer is doing this for the asset, I don't think he wants to try solo mining for a full month before determining what works better for the asset/investors. I was just thinking 48 hours was too short. Maybe 72 hours, maybe a week. Will trust his decision regardless

Which is why I have suggested that instead of doing a live comparison he just adds up the historic data on the blocks he mined on the Pool and multiplies by the Block Reward Plus Fee and does a comparison that way.
On paper in the Long Run Solo should be better because there is no Pool Fee, however comparisons I have done have always been slightly better Pool Mining. I have various theories why but have not been able to confirm or quantify them. I suspect the main reason is that even a Month is not long enough given the variability of hitting blocks.
Rich
-
@RichBC Ahh I understand you now. That seems like a smart (and quick) way to do it. Difficulty is obviosuly changing but it should be a good enough comparison. Good suggestion
-
@vier23 Changes in difficulty are not an issue so long as you use the correct Block Reward for the period you are doing the comparison over.
The only debatable point in a mathematical comparison would be pool down time and any resultant missed Blocks v any Solo mining related problems you might of had such as your Local Wallet getting on a Fork?
Bottom line is that I suspect there is not much to choose between them :-)
Rich
