@iKnow0 Dude thats crazy! Top pic has 19 Drives attached? What piece of hardware lets you achieve that?
And I have a Poweredge 2900 dual Xeon server sitting in my garage, is it useable like your server board is?
-
@tylerk07 20 actually :-) . PCIE SATA Controllers. You should be able to do something with your Poweredge just get creative.
-
@iKnow0 Nice Ill have to invest in some of those! Do some motherboards cap the total capacity it can handle?
-
@tylerk07 Just depends on what you can connect to the board, but the more drives you have the better CPU you will need.
-
@iKnow0 Perfect ill look into it!
-
@iKnow0 By the way how many TB each rig?
-
@iKnow0 My ethereum rig used to look like that.
-
I'm just using a Acer Aspire 5755G laptop sitting ontop of my media center PC with a 1 TB drive inside the laptop, a external 1 TB 2.5" and a 8 TB external 3.5" - saves power
-
@weaveR Easy 10TB right there!
-
-
I want a miner like @haitch 's :D haha
-
@haitch Thats awesome! what are those Sata Data Cables you have in the second photo? and how are they powered?
-
@tylerk07 They are 2 x SFF-8088 mini-SAS External Connectors connected to an LSI 9285 8e RAID Controller. The controller is an 8e - so the ports are actually external - I plug the cables in externally, and then feed them back through an open PCI slot. Each cable has 4 SAS/SATA connectors.
-
@haitch how much it costed you for a controller? and is it good? :) While i do have on my board 6 Sata connctions (4 - sata3, 2 - sata2) at some point i should run out :D
-
@LithStud The card was actually a trade for a PSU & GPU. It's a VERY nice card, new they're just under $400. However you can pickup LSI 8i's for around $50 on ebay. Note that you'll also need to get the matching cables if they don't come with the card. But they give you 8 drives off one slot. You can even use an 8e card with external ports, 2 * external chassis with a SAS expander, and drive 32 drives off one card.
-
@haitch damn O_O currently i have borrowed from work LSI SAS 3000 series controller for SAS hardrives (happened to get coule 73GB SAS disks lol) old thing but still works nicely only problem those 15K SAS disks are noisy as hell :D
-
@LithStud Mine aren't - quiet little beasties. The server they sit in on the other hand ..........
-
@haitch lol :D
why not go a notch higher? :D
-
@LithStud You're not thinking big enough ..... 480TB of goodness ....
