What is the basetarget mean?
-
I feel like i know most of the terms on burst but i do not know this one. If this is already covered then just send me a link please. Thanks!
-
@stupendelious BaseTarget is basically a difficulty scale. It's adjusted every round to try and keep each round to about 4 minutes. If a lot of capacity joins the network, the basetarget will go up, if miners drop off it'll go down.

@haitch Thanks! Also another question is $12/TB good rate?
-
@stupendelious It's a very good rate! Where are you getting that ?
-
@haitch craigslist and they are seagates. correct me if im wrong but you are the one that stays away from seagates right? :P lol
-
@stupendelious I've not had good luck with seagates, and some models do have the worst reliability rate. But at that price, I'd take on the risk.

@stupendelious I also had many problems with Seagate disks. I'm working in IT business and have bad experiences (many times) with Seagate disks in last few years. So, in my opinion: stay away from Seagate.
-
@haitch Yeah i will probably go for it. Guy says he used them for a media server and only wrote to them once and then just read occasionally. they are 5tb each and he has 5 so i will probably get like 3 of them and he will probably give me discount for getting 3! so ill probably get them for $10/TB. Would this work to connect them? https://www.amazon.com/Sata-Cable-Lumsing-2-5-Inch-Optimized/dp/B01CV855BC/ref=sr_1_6?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1466262184&sr=1-6&keywords=sata+to+usb
-
@stupendelious That cable probably won't work - I doubt the USB port can provide sufficient power to drive a 3.5" drive. Look for a powered SATA/USB dock, or an external chassis if you can't install the drives in your PC.

@moonjeina I hate that seagate is such a popular brand even though they have such a bad reputation for this stuff and one of the highest failure ratings. So when you buy used and find a great deal but figure out it is seagate, you feel like you should stay away.
-
@haitch can you send me an example of something i could use,to connect via usb?
-
@stupendelious Yep, I bought an (used) external chassis with 8x 3TB Seagates. 3 of them are dead, and two more are a little suspect. But they mined long enough to pay for themselves.
