500TB hardware setup
-
Dears,
I would like to get 500TB. I was thinking what is the best hardware for this setup. I want to use a single PC for this. I want to have a very cost effective hardware setup.
I am thinking to use ASUS X99-DELUXE II.

@botan good question, I want to know too :D

@botan Your query is basically an oxymoron, I have built 500TB systems but they are never designed to be connected to a single system. Last one I built was a a NetApp E5600 fully populated. In terms of enterprise storage its very cheap per TB. For the home user people would cry and ask "Why did I pay so much".
On a serious note start with something like this, a 36-Drive chassis. The article is a little dated as they are using 3TB drives, you could use 6TB or 8TB drives and double down on your space savings.

I also don't really understand what problem is being solved by your $350 motherboard that a $100 motherboard can't support.

@IceBurst thanks a lot helps a lot :D

@IceBurst thanks a lot for your explanation. I mentioned the mother board just to see if this can take a lot of hard drives? and using USB3 hubs I might extend the number of attached hard drives.
A while ago I was thinking to use backuppods 6.0 $4900, but I think its expensive. with this hardware you can have up to 600TB in a single unit.
I am looking for your advice and help regarding the cheapest possible hardware to mine burst. my goal is to get 500TB for now.
