Would I be able to mine burstcoin with this->https://www.amazon.com/WD-Cloud-EX4-Pre-configured-featuring/dp/B00G4JZ30S a( WD My Cloud EX4 16 TB)?
Thank you!

@kooy Definitely, but you could do it cheaper with an unpopulated NAS and buying your own drives - eg Diskless MyCloud + Refurb Toshiba 8TB Disks I've picked up a bunch of the drives and they work great - slow to plot, but fine for mining. Thats 32TB for a shade over $1K

Thank you for your quick reply @haitch, is there any advantage when mining burstcoin on a WD My Cloud EX4 16 TB rather than your suggestion, besides having to build it yourself?
Also, since it has a cpu and ram built in can it technically mine on its own? Im a complete noob. The miner i have set up currently is just a 2tb seagate external plugged into an old laptop of mine.
-
@kooy No you cannot mine on the device itself, you could however mine on a pc that is connected to it over ethernet. But your data transfer rate would be limited to 1Gb, which is slow in comparison to USB3.0. Internal SATA drives or external USB 3.0 drives would be a better choice. Do you intend mining with a laptop or a desktop? If laptop go for the external USB 3.0 drives, if desktop go for internal SATA drives. Work out the cost per TB for each option that you consider. @ 1220$ / 16 = 76.25 $ per TB, very expensive. In general I will only pay 27$ or less per TB about a third of what your considering.

@kooy It's a NAS so I'd normally say no, but it's possible it has some version of Linux that would let you mine directly - but I think it's more likely you'd do it as network storage.
Advantage of doing it your self is cost - A pre-populated 24TB unit is $1,500 whereas a build your own can give you 32TB for $1,000

Could you please elaborate on this? If I was going to build a large farm, then wouldn't it be impossible to fit all the internal drives internally without using many computers? Or, do you use some kind of "external" cabinet for fitting extra internal hard drives?
-
@Propagandalf You can do both - I have a miner with 14 internal drives, and another with 8 internal and 16 external in a chassis. The chassis can be daisy chained - on a standard 2U server I could easily do 256 External drives.

@Propagandalf I just bought two of these puppies (Syba SATA III 8 Port PCI-E 2.0 Controller Card) , https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00ESFEI2E/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Eight drives each. You will need a big PC case or just build your own rig. Lots of air will give better cooling. You will also need to power it so lots of SATA power cables, https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0086OGN9E/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Internal SATA drives are cheaper so the rig will pay for itself quicker. If you are still unsure just ask.
