Upgrading a laptop's USB 2.0 to USB 3.0
-
Has anyone got experience with upgrading a laptop's USB 2.0 to USB 3.0? I read that the process is much simpler on a stationary than on a laptop, because you in many cases have to replace or modify the motherboard, which can be quite tedious. In such cases, upgrading the entire computer may be a better option.
However, I also read that it should be possible to buy a USB 3.0 card that you connect to your laptop's eSata or Express Card slot, if you have one.

@Propagandalf on a stationary, I have bought a 19 pin to USB 3.0 cable from ASUS. It's so simple. Just plug it and play it. ABout laptops, I still have to do some reading into it. :)

@Propagandalf Most of the laptops out there have an Express Card slot, so you can upgrade to USB 3.0 without problems:

These Express Cards don't cost more than $ 15 and you get 2 USB 3.0 ports.
Only the superthin ultrabooks don't have one...

Thanks for the reply. So, if I upgrade to USB 3.0 using the Express Card slot and get 2 new USB 3.0 ports, will it work fine to plug a separate USB 3.0 hub into my new USB 3.0 ports, just like it would if my laptop already had these?

@Propagandalf In theory yes. :)
