Plot questions
-
Hi I'm new to burstcoin never really had any experience with crypto currencys either my question is I spent about 7 hours making plots but I played with the priority and it made my computer unresponsive which meant I had to hard reset the machine.
I tried mining the plot I made but it said size mismatch does this mean you have to finish plotting otherwise the plots are useless?
Also I thought this program was meant to not be resource hungry but I only managed to do about 111GB in 7 hours when I've seen people doing terabytes in 12 hours is it a waste of time plotting on a E5700 CPU with 8GB DDR3 RAM? How much can I expect to make if I have a 8TB hard drive connected with usb 2.0?
-
@weaveR Your problem is not the PC, you even have more RAM that i do xD Your problem is the drive be USB 2.0... you could speed up a little the plot by plotting on a intern drive or a usb 3.0 drive and then move the plot to the USB 2.0 drive?! to see how much you can expect, just use burstcoin.biz/calculator...
-
Does USB 3.0 really make a difference? Unfortunately the computer only has USB 2.0 I might plug in the 8TB with SATA if it'll make much of a difference?
-
@weaveR It will make a huge difference fo sure... A usb 3 card is very cheap, maybe that could solve your problem...
-
It doesn't have pci-e though it's a real old cheap computer.
-
On the SATA drive it's doing 591 nonces/minute (avg 749)... and on the USB 2.0 drive it's doing 834 nonces/minute (avg 655) weird the USB 2.0 drives doing more than the SATA drive when less RAM is allocated as well.
-
@weaveR It is a slow CPU. You have to plot only one time, after that it is not resource hungry at all.
Maybe you have a decent graphic card? You could try the GPU plotter instead.
-
@daWallet I have a 3930k and a Titan X on my main computer but I couldn't work out how to use the gpu plotter I don't know where to get my numeric account number etc.
-
I found a guide for anyone with the same problem https://burstcoin.wordpress.com/2014/09/22/windows-gpu-plotter-walk-through/
-
What would the optimized settings be for a titan x card?
-
@weaveR run gpuplotgenerator with the setup parameter, it'll walk you through the settings you need for the card. Then when creating you plot file, the last number is 4x the amount of memory to use is MB. So you use 2GB, enter 8192, 4GB 18384 etc. Try and keep it a power of two number, and I recommend plotting in direct mode to get fully optimized plots.
-
I had to use 4096 otherwise I got a out of resources message? It's really lagging my computer though I tried playing with the priority but it still really lags it but now it says it's only going to take a day and 13 hours is that good for 8TB or do I need to tweak the settings more?
I tried direct mode too but it said it was going to take like a year.
-
@weaveR the direct mode estimates are way off, the plotter generates the first stagger worth of nonces, then builds the complete plot file, then fills it in. The time estimates while it's creating the file are horrendous, but totally wrong.
For 8TB 37 hours is high, but not unrealistic.
To help with your PC responsiveness adjust the CPU affinity - turn off CPU 0
-
Cool I can see the 8TB drive is nearly under 100% load now and when using direct mode it seems to be working with 65536 so I think it's using the whole 12 gigs now.
-
It's also not lagging my computer which is good.
But it popped up with the out of resources message I'll keep tweaking it till it works.
-
@weaveR For out of resources messages, reduce the stagger.
-
Yeah I did it seems to be working now how do the "nounces" work exactly? I just copied and pasted it from the CPU plotting do I need to change up the numbers to get plots?
-
@weaveR yes... you need to sum the first plotted nounce (2nd number) with the total of nonces plotted (3rd number) of your previous plot...
-
I don't think there's a difference in USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 @gpedro because i have both and they plot at the same speed. :)
-
@jervis Plotting your bottleneck is your CPU, mining, your bottleneck will be the USB 2.0
