RE: USB 3 vs. USB 2posted in Mining & Plotting
Thanks for the response. Right now I'm using the space on my computer's hard drive, plus 2 external drives, with plans to get at least one more. So I think I will invest in a USB 3 card, I think they're mostly under $20 on Ebay and other places.

USB 3 vs. USB 2posted in Mining & Plotting
This is a follow-up question to one I posted earlier about my mining being slower that it could. How much of an improvement would USB3 be over my current USB2 - would it be worth it to by a USB3 card? Also, I'm using the default choice for mining. My client won't run either the OpenCL or the AVX options for some reason, which is a problem I'll look at later. Are either of those two choices much faster than the default choice? Sorry if these are basic questions.

Is my miner running slow?posted in Mining & Plotting
Can someone look at the screenshot of my miner and see if my drives are running slower than normal? I have three drives ( 6.7T) and they usually run between 15 and 18 MBs. I was looking at the results of other miners in the pool I'm in and it seems that comparably sized users are earning about two to three times the payouts that I've been getting. I usually earn not more than 300 bursts per day with my almost 7T.
I'm just wondering if my system is slower than average and if it is can I do anything so speed it up. My computer is a few years old and only has USB2 instead of USB3 which may be a factor. I think my two external drives run at 5400 rpm instead of 7200. Maybe I'm being paranoid but I've seen screenshots of miners on this forum with much higher MB/s rates. Hopefully my screenshot is big enough to read - I seem to always have trouble pasting screenshots. Thanks for any info!

RE: Confused by red line in miner program...posted in Mining & Plotting
I found the bad file on the newest drive I plotted, deleted it, and now everything works fine. Thanks again for the help!

Oh, OK, I didn't even think of that. I'll check. Thanks for the reply.

RE: Confused by red line in miner program...posted in Mining & Plotting
Thanks for the reply. I looked in the C:\Burst\Plots directory as you said. There are four fairly large files, none of them are 0 bytes. So perhaps my problem is something different? As I said earlier, I'm still getting payouts from my mining, so maybe this is nothing to worry about, it's just bothering me since something isn't right. If I really shouldn't worry about it just let me know.

OK , this is where my computer ignorance comes to the forefront. I looked under the Burstwallet directory and found two files that had 0 kbyte. Their names were "nxt.log.1.lck" and "nxt.log.lck". Are these maybe the bad plot files your talking about? I don't want to delete anything important that's going to mess up the Burst client.
