Blockchain downloading problems

  • I'm running local wallet version 1.2.8 from the Burst team releases page on an ubuntu 16.10, with OpenJDK RE 1.8.0_8u131-b11-0ubuntu1.16.10.2-b11.

If I download the blockchain from db.burst-team.us, unzip the contents into burst_db, and start the server, I get a warning that I have forged the last 10 blocks and I'm probably on a fork. The height of the most recent block is 359321, from May 12. The page says "Downloading blockchain" in the bottom right-hand corner, but no new blocks show up, and if I try to post transactions to the network I'm told I have to wait for the download to complete.

If start with now burst_db directory, I just get the genesis block, and then nothing else.

Any suggestions about how to debug this? I'm thinking maybe some firewall is blocking my access to the network. What ports / protocols does it use?

  • that first time you should have some patience ;) when downloading chain sometimes client seems stuck but it resumes in some time.

  • @coventry , supposedly that dl is supposed to be no more than 24hr old but I don't think they have been doing that so purposefully lately,

Once you get the genesis block line it just sits there for quite awhile even with a DB that's just a few blocks old. You have to wait. Although no more than 1/2/ hour, if so, then something's wrong. I run 7 wallets on 3 machines. Struggling with them all the time. One could be going fine for days and then just dies.

If you want to do a transaction swap your AIO front page to the online wallet and you will be able to see the current block and do transactions.

  • It appears to have been a firewall issue... don't see this behavior when I run the wallet on an AWS instance.

  • @rds

If you want to do a transaction swap your AIO front page to the online wallet and you will be able to see the current block and do transactions.

Could you expand on this? Is there a way to generate a transaction and then ship it for publication to the network via an online wallet with an up-to-date blockchain database?

  • @coventry If you enter here https://wallet.burst-team.us takes you to the wallets online, you just have to enter with your password and you will have the same account as in the local wallet.

That if I prefer to use the local purse, I only use these if I can not use the local because it is being updated or if I am not at home
