Mining while plotting?
-
I currently have 9TB fully plotted with another 8TB at 97% plotted and just noticed jminer was reading up to 17TB. Does that mean plots are mined as they are written even before the plot file is finished writing?
-
@newsense2004 Not a problem .. keep on mining while plotting :)
-
@newsense2004 jminer calculates capacity based on plot filenames, so if you mine a file just getting plotted, the displayed values may not be accurate. If you set 'debug=true' jminer will warn you about differences between real filesize and size specified in filename. But e.g. xplotter creates the full filesize on start plotting and fills it up due plotting, such incomplete files can not be detected by jminer.
-
@luxe so am I correct that the extra 8TB which is not finished plotting is not being mined currently?
-
@newsense2004 the already finished should mine correctly ... however i suggest not mining a file just being plotted ... i never tested how the miner will behave in such a case ... could be a issue if two applications access same file at same time ... not sure ... may depend on filesystem and os ...

@luxe I am mining with jminer GPU from the AIO wallet and plotting using cpu and Xplotter. Jminer is reading up to 17TB which I have only 9TB fully plotted.
-
@luxe In my experience the miner will report the size of the file, but is blocked from mining it - the plotter has it open exclusively.
-
@haitch Thanks, exactly what I needed to know.
-
@newsense2004 , I plot my files to the Burst directory then cut and paste them to the burst\plots directory. That leaves the current plotting file from causing error opening file on the miner.
-
@rds I get no errors from Jminer. It shows the current drive being plotted and reads up to 17TB which is what's currently plotted plus the drive being plotted.
-
@newsense2004 , I use the CPU plotter. As @haitch said the plotter locks the currently plotted file so when the CPU miner scans it it says error. Not a big deal but I just like to isolate any file I haven't checked for integrity before I put them in the farm.
-
@rds I am using jminer in GPU mode. It adds all drives including drives being plotted and when it shows reads it seems to include the current drive being plotted. Not sure if it is actually mining it.

"It adds all drives including drives being plotted", only if the drive being plotted is in the miner scan directories, typically "burst\plots". Regardless, no issues, if it is mining the partial drive, you may get lucky and hit a block with the partial file, otherwise no loss over the farm without the plotted file.

@rds Cool. Good to know but makes my books a mess as I was calculating mining power from time of completed plot.
