Noticed I lost some of my GB when i deleted plots to re-plot
-
I have a feeling I did not have to delete the plot file to add more plots but in this case I did.
Does this mean I must reformat before re-plotting in the future?
-
@darindarin not sure I completely follow... Like the total capacity of your drive was reduced after deleting a plot? or you just have fewer plots now and your mining capacity is smaller?
I personally like to reformat a drive but I don't think it's necessary. Just a little bit of a perfectionist/ocd when it comes to that stuff lol
-
@k.coins the total capacity of my drive was diminished
here is a screenshot as its happened twice now.that is a 500gb and 1 tb drive.. that were full capacity before i deleted plot files in each drive. .. very odd.. my guess is i have to reformat.. :(
-
@darindarin A 500GB is actually, 500,000,000,000 Bytes, converting it to "true" GB, 500,000,000,000 / 1024 /1024 /1024 = 465GB. For a "1TB" drive it's twice that: 930GB.
-
@darindarin well... you could try... but you know they are never truly 1 Tb, right? Maybe you didn't notice before?
Looking at this page http://www.tweakandtrick.com/2013/07/lost-storage-space.html your 1 TB is right on spec for total capacity available. Has to do with the 2 base system of our computers.
I've tried experimenting with different formatting techniques to restore full volumes but don't have any solid suggestions, sorry brotha. I would honestly say your good tho and that nothing else is required.
-
@haitch well when you put it that way i guess my issue was never an issue at all.. could have swore it displayed much closer to 996 gb and 498 gb upon install.
trying to figure it out before i go ham on an external drive.
-
Dang, you beat me to it @haitch - your advice is spot on with that article lol
-
@darindarin wait until you get up to "8TB" that are actually only 7.27TB ...
-
@k.coins thank you again you guys are quick to respond here.
-
@darindarin Community members from all around the world, so pretty much anytime you ask a question there should be someone available to help out.
-
@haitch i guess i know what to expect.. have been eyeing a 8tb seagate on amazon since i started my journey a few days ago.
-
@darindarin I got me one of those for $169 on black friday =P
-
@k.coins this one?

-
@darindarin yup. same one. had a homie pick up 5 of em at the same time I got 1 lol
- side note, he dropped one and I took it from him because he said it was broke. Opened it up, moved the read/write arm back into place and voila = free 8 TB! heheheh
-
@darindarin Personally I won't buy any more Seagates. The only drives I've had die during mining have been Seagate ( 5 x )
I had an 8TB SAS "Enterprise" drive. It died, RMA'd and got a replacement. It died after 3 Days. RMA'd again, replacement arrived DOA. RMA'd again - haven't tested the replacement replacement for the replacement yet ............
-
@k.coins thats awesome..haha. quick question how long of a plotting process was it before it was ready.. and did you use all 7.2tb's? or did you leave some room ?
-
And the missing G: drive? Thats the 8TB SAS .....
-
@haitch jeeeeez talk about a headache.. everyone i ask locally about seagate says WD instead and that seagate testing is very weak. im pretty much on the fence with the one in the picture.. the 500gb drive i also have pictured is a seagate that is 8 years old or older and i found in a shoebox when i first discovered this new coin... ive been looking on ways to plot two drives at once .. wouldnt mind pushing my 900gb a little further with the 500gb seagate if it is possible without RAID
-
@darindarin WD, HGST, Toshiba, never Seagate again.
Edit Using the GPU plotter you can plot multiple drives simultaneously, but you need to get down and use the command line. Ask if you need details
-
@darindarin It can take up to a week to plot that size, depending on your system specs. And as far as how much space I fill - all of it (xplotter v1.0, can fill the drive for you if you use the -n 0 parameter, check out the thread on it if you haven't already)
