Pool spamming
-
There are a number of accounts that are repeatedly submitting bad nonces to the pools, and I mean the same bad nonce over and and over again. I'm going to start blocking those IP's. Don't know which mining software is doing it, but if you suddenly can't reach the pools, contact me - and we can figure out what's going on and get the issue resolved.
-
How can we see on our side what is a bad nonce? Is it a really high number? What is the definition of a "bad nonce"?
-
@rds On the miner it'll report some like "Your nonce is REALLY bad ..." then specify a deadline upto the ten's of thousands of years. All the mining software I know of make one attempt to submit a nonce, these are submitting the bad nonces multiple times - often more than once per second. Those are the ones I'll be blocking
The bad nonce message won't happen if you've got one of the problem miners - you just won't be able to reach the pool at all.
-
@haitch The only time i saw a REALLY bad nonce was with a plot with wich the stagger is not multiple of 8... so basically when people mine with a plot with stagger 1000 instead of 1024 for example...
But wich pool are you talking about? in the pool.burst4all.com you can be receiving a lot of submissions like that from the android mining...
-
@gpedro Mostly pool.burst-team.us and pool.burstcoin.biz, but also watching pool,burtcoin,eu
-
@haitch a one off really bad time, or regular bad time - no problem, but these miners are submitting the same bad block over and over again - constant submissions of bad blocks.
-
@haitch oh ok in the same block... that sounds odd...
Glad you are already on it then... ;D
-
@gpedro the pool was having to process the same bad nonce upto multiple time per second. I'm presuming it was inadvertent, but it was a DoS attack. After those IP's have been blocked, the VM CPU usage has dramatically reduced.
-
@haitch yep it was what i thought when i wrote my message but i thought you already checked and i were right hahahha
Glad you solve it so fast, always on time ;D
-
@haitch I mine in burstcoin.biz and sometimes I get this message "Your nonce is REALLY bad", tried to fix it with submit best only key and repotting but it still appears from time to time.
my miner conf have the below modified switches
"SendBestOnly" : true,
"TargetDeadline": 3048000,Anything else I can do to prevent such message before you block me?
-
- The message means there is something wrong with one of your plot files - look in the log files to figure out which one it is.
- I'm only blocking the miners that send the same bad nonce over and over - most miners will send it once and be done. However, there are a handful of miners that will repeatedly keep resubmitting the bad block - those are the ones I'm blocking.

@haitch I think one of my plots may have been doing this. I just noticed I cant even go to http://pool.burstcoin.eu/... How do I fix this? Just re plot the drives?
The pool is down right now, I don't think it is your IP causing you to not be able to go to the pool

We track the best deadline and always compare to see if it's better before submitting.

@Adeptus There was a problem with .eu earlier - so maybe not. What miner do you use ?
Go to ipchicken.com and DM your IP address and I'll see if you're one of the ones I blocked.

Thanks @superskid and @haitch!!! You were both right. I though maybe it was just the domain but I wasn't sure. Everything's good now!
