[ANN] SocalsFarm (Mining Asset) 50% Investor Insurance
-
@socal Given the significant increase in Burst price, and how much releasing the escrow would allow you to expand, I'm willing to do so unless there is a large investor push back. Rather than release all at once, I'll release 25% now - about $1,500 worth, and then again each time those additional drives are plotted and earning for the asset.
-
@haitch Given there were no objections, and at Socals request to get additional equipment, I've released 50% of the escrow. I believe @socal has proven his intent with the asset, and look forward to the expansion these funds will provide.
-
I acknowledge receipt of funds and I have converted them for Equipment upgrades and purchasing.
Stay tuned because this asset will be getting a massive mining capacity boost soon.
-
Now here's a concern. Should I go with SMR drives that will provide much higher density HDDs at the cost of plotting taking up to 10 times as long OR Smaller drives with MUCH faster plotting rates.
Real Life Example:
It took me only 8 hours to plot my 2TB regular Toshiba drive but took me about 150 hours to plot one 5TB Seagate SMR Drive
-
@socal I would go with the lowest $ / TB
Rich
-
@RichBC that is normally the SMR drives unfortunately. They are a holy terror to plot but are fine once plotted
-
@socal I agree with Rich. No point buying fancy hdds while cheaper ones do the same job. Just keep them cool and avoid seagate and everything should be fine.
-
@socal Are SMR Drives actually cheaper than a conventional Drive, what drives / TB / costs are you considering?
Rich
-
@RichBC well since last time I bought drives the 5TB Seagate SMR drives were $120 or $24/TB
-
@socal Price sounds quite good to me, but I am in the UK so difficult to compare. My farm is mostly Toshiba Canvio 5TB USB, which when I last bought several Months ago were the best TB / £ in the UK.
Rich
-
@RichBC yeah different price markets and I'm trying to go internal drives now not external drives so looking at some 8TB internal HDDs at $285
-
I'll actually be paying a higher cost per TB but these are the largest HDDs available currently so we are getting the highest available storage density
-
@socal I think going internal is fine, you should still look for the lowest $ /TB but remember to include in your thinking the interface and any other costs.
So also look forward to how many more TB / Drives you will be adding over the coming Months as it may mean that a slight extra cost but less Drives is more cost effective?
Rich
-
@RichBC more or less yes now a large expense is going to be the C&C computer itself since it will need a high-end CPU and GPU to mine such massive amounts of capacity in a timely enough manner to make mining possible. So as of current calculations I can get the new C&C computer and another 48TB of mining capacity with internal space for another 72TB of capacity as more funds are released
-
This means the asset will have a brand new dedicated C&C computer and 68TB of mining capacity.
-
@socal I am no expert but I think the key to a good read speed for the plots is jminer and a GPU, then you need to think about the interfaces for the number of SATA Drives you plan to have. Once you have that the power of the CPU and amount of memory is far less important.
Rich
-
@RichBC I will have 6 8TB SATA drives, a GTX 1070 GPU and a Intel i7-7700K CPU. In the future I will put in another 9 8TB SATA HDDs and associated PCIe SATA controller(s) for the extra SATA drives. This is a total of 120TB internal mining capacity.
This will be in addition to the 20TB of External drives currently mining.
-
@socal Spec sounds good, but I wonder if you might be better to stick with AMD for the GPU? I would see what others say before committing?

@RichBC here's a link to screen shots of the proposed rig components m.imgur.com/a/Jnj4G

I also just want to say that now would be the time to buy up the shares being sold below market price (20Burst, which is the IPO price) this will be a large performance increase for the asset and the quicker the bargain shares are bought and the remainder of the current block of shares sold the faster the other 9 bays in the Miner can be filled with HDDs
