Seagate 2 GB external hard disk crashed
-
Topic says it all..
Bought it 3 years back and was very rarely used. I started using for mining here and it crashed.. very unreliable hard disks by Seagate..
I have already faced similar issues, but had trust on seagate but this incident broke them all...I am planning for western digital for all my future drives.. what do you guys suggest

western digital GREEN - bad idea
I'm buy 10 HDD, 8 - with bad sectors from manufacturer
-
what about the blue one.. is it better

Looks WD has its own set of problems as well

@tpriyan I have 10 seagate, 3 of them - RIP.
I like Hitachi

I have no problems with WD Green so far. The only HDDs that crashed in my life were Seagates...

I got 3 seagates which total more 100000 hours and have no problem with them. I guess the only difference is they were server hdd and have less than 30 starts a piece. Actually the only issue I have is them getting warm but it happens with a WD hdd I have too. So me been lucky so far!

Personally, I prefer western digital RED drives. I've never had an issue with those.
I also use a lot of Seagate External drives haven't had any issues with those too, but I may just be lucky there.
Western digital Black, Hitachi (thus far) and my all time favorite Western Digital RED, are my personal good luck drives.

Alright finally had to create an account to chime in.
External hard drives have another host of problems that come with them. I have had a few die and was able to save them in some sense. I have also fount that collecting bad or dead EXTERNAL hard drives is an awesome place to source free drives.
Most all external hard drives fail when it comes to actually powering the drive. So by opening the enclosure and providing the actual hard drive with external power, you can revive the drive. The external enclosure still needs its power for the USB processing unit. I have a few drives mining on a basic computer power supply that was laying around. Most of it sourced free. Alternatively you can just remove the drive from the enclosure and install it in your PC (if you haven't already filled all your ports like me). I have found that 98% of the time the drive is ok.
My personal opinion is that Seagate is crap. WD fanboy here
I have found some great deals on ebay for internal hard drives. Be careful though I was almost sucked into some fraudulent sales. Ebay saved me. If the price is almost half its to good to be true.

eBay is a great place to find good used or refurb drives for great prices. I've been pretty lucky with almost all the drives I have.
BURST mining does NOT damage the drives, if anything they'll last a lot LONGER simply mining than being used for traditional storage.

I bought a few at ebay and yes sometimes you get a great price. The only issue is heat, drives with many hours like to get warm. So ask about SMART Data and get Operating hours and starts ups.
You only have to write on theses thing one time so keeping them cool will get you many burstcoins.
