HP Z600 2x x5550 cpu
-
I called HP but they apparently dont understand my German or they have no idea.
I bought a used Hp z600 about a year ago and ran into a problem while cleaning, I couldnt take off 1 of the cpu heatsinks.
Someone used a non original screw to bolt down the heatsink and one is jammed and cant be removed.Does any know if the heatsink screws directly in the MB or is there a plate or bracket on the backside of the MB.
Someone tried to tell me that they screw directly into the MB but that dosent make sense to me.
I made a go around solution but 1 cpu is warmer than the other while running 100%

@tross most heatsink screws usually go through the MB to a bracket at the backside.

All my other computers were that way. Intel or AMD all had brackets. HP told me that the workstation didnt and was directly bolted to MB. I am a electronic technician or lets say was and I think thats messed up. I googled my butt off and did see a tray but wasnt sure if it for the workstation I have. I also have a years worth of computer admin and repair but never heard of this before.

@tross I am IT worker as well. The thing is HP is kinda "less-known" brand in my country. So I can only guess about their workstation architecture. By my experience, I never saw heatsink type that bolted directly to the MB.
I guess, the best way is to detach MB and try to unscrew it carefully.

Thanks I was wanting to avoid tearing it all the way down but might be my only choice. I also called the company that sold me the workstation he said hp workstations have their heatsinks change cleaned or what ever only a couple times during the life time of that computer. So only know till I look.
