How important is it to eject external drives before entering sleep mode or powering off?
-
I have about 6 TB on two external drives, that are connected to my PC using a USB 3 hub. I do not mine during the night, but I hardly ever shut the PC off completely, so I use sleep mode. I never eject the drives before entering sleep mode, and I do not eject them if I turn it off. Should I change my habits?
In my understanding (which could be wrong) it is worse to not eject a drive if you physically disconnect it by removing the USB cable, or if you cut its power supply while it is connected to a PC.

@Propagandalf If they're just for Burst, you can just sleep/poweroff the laptop, or just pull the USB cable. The only risk of data corruption is when you pull the cable writing to the the drives - once plotted, they never get written to again.

@haitch K, thanks for the info!

@Propagandalf Im plotting my 1TB hard drive right now and by acccident my computer fell asleep! I hit power instead of delete. I turned it on a second later. Does this mean I screwed up the plotting?

@burn1ngf1re If the plotter crashed, or wasn't running, then yeah, delete the plot and restart. But if it just went to sleep and the plotter is still running, leave it be.
