Cheap (refurb) 8TB drives.

@jervis None DOA - all recognized just fine. Now plotting 150,000,000 Nonces in GPU direct mode - it's in the file building phase at the moment @ 550MB/sec. Current ETA is 291 years to complete ;-)
I tried to use my GPU to plot but it has 0 MB/sec for 10 minutes. I cancelled. Does it need 128 bits GPU?
-
@jervis No - regular PC is fine. Were you doing it in direct mode or buffered mode? In direct mode, it has to build the file, then fills it in. Nothing will appear to be happening, possibly for hours. Go into Resource Monitor and check the GPUPlotGenerator is writing to disk.
-
@haitch i've done direct and buffered. nothing happens. just 0 MB/sec. Where can i find the resource monitor? I've used the GPU 1 gb and APU 3gb, both 0 MB/sec. :( do i have to wait for hours?
-
@jervis Task Manager -> Performance -> Open Resource Monitor. Goto disk and expand the areas.
How big a plot are you trying to do ?
-
@haitch right now, it's only 5Tb left. I have done plotting little by little my 12TB using CPUs :( yeah, the struggle
-
@jervis a 5TB plot will take hours - just verify that it's using disk and be ptient.
-
@haitch I will check the disk next time i write plots. :) thanks.

Does anybody who bought these have any updates on how they are performing? Would you recommend them?
-
@bcu1 They're slow to plot - suspect they're SMR drives - but fine for mining.

for those living in Switzerland (are there any?) cheapest TB`s right now are:

Bought a bunch. May be an error on there side. We`ll see!Sorry for highjacking your thread!
-
@nixxda guess somebody has been using my link!-) now they are "normal" price again. I've got mine, hope you got yours!
If you want to know how not to plot them see my other posts.......
-
@nixxda I bought two of the exact same hard drives but from Amazon. Plotting them as we speak... :)

$178 for a 8TB hard drive is a great deal was that USD?
When I go to the page the drive is listed as a Marshal 8TB drive? Does Marshal = Toshiba? Also the price is $210 for me.
-
@weaveR The price went up since this was posted. They are Toshiba drives, and Marshal Co is selling them.
-
@weaveR Yeah, price went up, but still good deal. Marshal drive's are refurbished Toshibas.
-
@haitch There are some refurbed 6TB Marshals here: Refurb Toshiba 8TB for $154 shipped. These are 7200RPM drives instead of the 5400 RPM 8TB Drives. And just to reiterate, the 8TB refurb drives I've got have been rock solid.

newegg ebay had a $179 8TB seagate external drives, brand new! about a month ago, I grabbed 2. You can just take the drive out of the enclosure if you want to install it as internal. So watch ebay closely, they will often repeat these deals.
-
@kokojie With the luck I've had with Seagates, I'm not buying any more. Of the 8 I had in a NAS, three are still functional, all the others just died.
-
Not a referb drive but still a good deal 2 year warrenty on a 6TB WD drive for US $129.99 + postage only one left get in quick!
