Starting over

@Randomtraveler More cores will help with faster plotting, and mining. As for the performance issue, go into task manager and change the CPU Affinitty to other than core 0
-
@haitch Can I change the cores usage after I finish plotting? I mean I am at 95% plotting with 1 core taking me 3 days so far and should take me another 1-3 hours to finish.
-
Let it finish, take haitch's advice for next time!
-
@luxe Now when you say next time? am I redoing the plot again? Cause ouch this I done twice already and I don't think I want to spend another 24 hrs having my laptop running slow on me.
-
he means for your next drive ;)
-
@daWallet Oh well...should be a while. But will it make a big difference right now between 1 core usage and all 4? Like a huge difference in mining that burst like something that it be completely pointless to use 1 compared to all 4?
-
Plotting and Mining are 2 different things. If you use only one core during plotting, it will write the necessary files slower but it won't have an effect on mining.
-
@Randomtraveler I'm speaking from my understanding here, Luxe will be able to elaborate - but when mining, there is one thread per drive - so if you're mining one drive, one thread is fine - if you have more drives on the system, you ideally want as many threads as you do drives. When plotting, the more threads the better - but you (hopefully) only do that once.

@haitch Drives..drives. Ok so if I understand you your speaking drives as in my Hard drive. The more hard rives I have different ones the more cores I want to use but if im using my own 1 internal hard drive of 500gb using 299gb for minning is ok to use 1 core? I thought of using one core to let my lptop also let me do other stuff while minning is not a laptop just for mining I use it for online and other stuff wanted to let it do both at ones. I doubt this but upgrading rams from 4 to 8 help?
-
@Randomtraveler If you're mining a single drive, then yeah, 1 CPU core is fine, just change the affinity from CPU 0 to one of the others. CPU 0 is used by default by a lot of windows processes, so if you're in a mining phase, the system is struggling to get CPU resources. By moving the miner off of CPU 0 you free up the resources for windows.

@haitch Please tell me how to do that cause I am tired of having windows act retarted on me when I kwo this laptop aint that bad of a laptop to be acting like its back in 1995.

When I say this is getting to my nerve I mean my cool and my limit was reached a few steps ago. I finished plotting yet again and I am went on to the rewards page and set that up. Now when I start the miner up says on red name/size mismatch I don't know why I never saw that before. I also keep having problems because it also keeps saying accounts do not match even thought I did clear that up already. I seriously don't see how many ways I can go about it that it accepts I only have one account and always use the same passphrase how I get it all the time for everything and somehow is always wrong or at least wrong enough to not be able to mine. I think I will have to start yet a third time but if I do I would like to update each step I do that way you guys can tell me what am I do wrong because I can't handle a third let down from the system cause it cant just accept I have one account.
-
@Randomtraveler If the systems are complaining about your pass phrase - you're entering the wrong pass phrase. The name/size mismatch error means the plotter died while mining your plot, and it's incomplete. Not knowing your specific system I can't really offer advice - but if CPU mining, reduce the number of threads, GPU mining, reduce the memory it can use.

New day new trial. I had completely restored my laptop last night in order to start from scratch and so hoping the laptop would never remember my mistakes here and there and all the plots I did. I downloaded the link where it has the wallet, plot, miner and all in one link. I open the wallet and at first it kept saying it was offline , i figure it just crashed because it came back up, but now I seem to be in a jam because I went to faucet first to try and get my account verified and get the 5 burst to start out. Well it seems my account number that I just got I even double checked I had it right as the system gave it to me and now faucet wont accept and when i try to copy the account burst ID it keeps popping this script error message just for even going close to the ID number. What else am i doing wrong since by now every single step somehow just makes things worse.

@haitch I have an Acer 17" intel pentium quad-core @ 2.16 with a 500gb HDD that I want to plot out of it around 300gb max of it for mining. Running it all with windowd 8.1 64bit.

A script error can be caused by an outdated version of Internet Explorer for example. If you recently restored your PC, then maybe you have an older version of IE than what you had before you restored it.

Yes i just did last night and have not updated it......guess that would do it ok imma see about the updates.
